April 8: CCWH Speakers Series: Roundtable on the Catherine Prelinger Award with Michelle Daniel Jones and Aimee Loiselle

The CCWH hosted this roundtable on the Catherine Prelinger Award with recent winners Michelle Daniel Jones (2021) and Aimee Loiselle (2020). This event took place on Friday, April 8 at 3 PM Easter/12 PM Pacific.

Michelle Daniel Jones is a graduate student at New York University working on a project titled “Creative Liberation Strategies in Prison: The Alabama Arts and Education Project.”

Aimee Loiselle is an assistant professor at Central Connecticut State University working on a manuscript titled Creating Norma Rae: Cultural Contests over the American Working Class, 1970s-1980s.

Friday, March 4, 2022, 12 pm- 1 pm EST CCWH Mentorship E-Session: Working at Non-Profits

This mentorship e-session concentrated on non-academic careers and more specifically on non-profits. It featured Charmaine Lang, Ph.D, Chief of Staff at 9to5. The session was held on Friday, March 4 at 12 pm EST.

February 8, 2022: Oral History E-Mentorship Session

The CCWH and the Southwest Oral History Association (SOHA) co-sponsored an e-mentorship session about Oral History on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. The session featured a conversation with the CCWH Media Team Coordinator and President of SOHA, Dr. Farina King, who is a citizen of the Navajo Nation and has experience with Native American community-based oral histories.

January 7, 2022: CCWH Annual Business Meeting

We held our annual business meeting in a hybrid in person-online format. The business meeting was open to all members, and it was held in-person in the Iberville Room (New Orleans Marriott, 4th Floor).

January 7, 2022: CCWH-Berkshire Conference of Women Historians Reception

We held our usual reception, but we did not host a luncheon this year.

15-17 December 2021 Winter Writing Retreat

Just like previous retreats, CCWH members could sign up and drop in at any point during the live hours of the virtual Winter Writing Retreat.

The retreat was held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday December 15-17th
10:30am-4:30pm EST/9:30am-3:30pm CST (with 1-hr lunch 1-2 EST/12-1 CST)

December 10, 2021: CCWH Virtual Awards Ceremony

During our virtual Awards Ceremony, we recognize and celebrate the winners and runners-up for our 2021 awards. This event was held via Zoom on Friday, December 10, at 3:00 PM Eastern/12:00 PM Pacific.

November 3, 2021: Stella Dadzie, “A Kick in the Belly: Women, Slavery and the Enduring Power of Resistance”

This event featured an online talk hosted by the History of Feminism Group at the University of Warwick. 4:30pm -6pm

October 8, 2021: Looking for mentors and job seekers: One-day workshop on job application documents

The CCWH hosted a two-hour workshop where grad students and early career researchers could bring one of their documents to be reviewed by a mentor, and their peers.

September 23, 2021: E-Mentorship Session: Resumes vs. CVs

The topic of this session was on the difference between resumes and CVs, and how we as historians can prepare both to be competitive in a range of jobs within and outside academia. 9:30am-3:30pm CST (with 1-hr lunch 1-2 EST/12-1 CST)

June 17: E-Session on Getting Started with Public History

This CCWH e-session on “Getting Started with Public History” featured our very own Public History Coordinator Elyssa Ford. This session was held for those who are interested in the field, or are practicing and want to hear some advice about the ins and outs of public history.

June 15, 2021: Berks co-sponsored AHA 2021 Panel Discussion: Caring for Money: How Intimate Laborers Employed Creative Strategies to Resist the Undervaluation of Their Labor, 1900-2020

May 5, 2021: E-Session on Writing for the Public

This mentorship E-session on the topic of Writing for the Public featured Dr. Cynthia Greenlee, a writer, historian, journalist, and scholar who is currently a senior editor at The Counter, among her many other achievements.

April 9, 2021: Virtual Roundtable: Careers for Historians beyond Academia

The Coordinating Council for Women in History hosted Careers for Historians beyond Academia, a roundtable discussing career paths for historians outside the traditional academic model. Panelists discussed how to extend career options beyond the traditional academic track, as well as options for more senior scholars of how to continue to engage with the scholarly world post-retirement. Panelists included Nell Irvin Painter, Kathleen Sheldon, Joe Stubenrauch, Elizabeth Everton, and Crystal Feimster (moderator).
