The History Department at Missouri State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship with a specialization in British History in the long nineteenth century (1750-1914) to begin August 2022. The department is particularly interested in candidates with an established research agenda whose work engages with British history from an imperial, transnational, and/or global perspective. Candidates with a secondary regional field in the history of South Asia, Southeast Asia, and/or the Indian Ocean World are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will develop and offer undergraduate and graduate courses in their area(s) of expertise. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching the department’s service courses, especially undergraduate and graduate historiography. It is expected that the successful candidate will employ innovative and inclusive teaching methods while also maintaining an active research agenda, and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The successful candidate must have completed all requirements for the PH.D. within one year of their appointment. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, writing sample, sample syllabus for an undergraduate-level historiography course, and the names and contact information for three professional references.
