Assistant/Associate Professor (Five Positions): The Marlboro Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies (2 positions, 1 Assistant, 1 Assistant/ Associate); Department of Visual and Media Arts (2 positions, Assistant); and Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing (1 position, Assistant/Associate).
Emerson College is pleased to announce a major faculty hiring initiative in Critical Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Building on the College’s strengths in communication and the arts in a liberal arts context, and supporting the College’s strategic initiatives in racial justice and equity, we seek to develop a distinguished interdisciplinary cohort of faculty whose research and teaching are at the intersections of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
We invite applications for five full-time, tenure-line positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Departments of Visual and Media Arts (2 positions, Assistant rank), Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing (1 position, Assistant or Associate rank), and the Marlboro Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies (2 positions, 1 Assistant, 1 Assistant or Associate rank).
We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching and research could support interdisciplinary collaboration with students and faculty in these three departments. Those who could offer classes in support of the minor programs in African American & Africana Studies, Latin American and Latinx Studies, Global and Postcolonial Studies, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and/or Peace and Social Justice are particularly encouraged to apply. Research and teaching interests that complement and enhance existing departmental strengths and Honors Program curricula would similarly be an asset. The appointments begin on August 18, 2022.
Qualifications for each position:
The Department of Visual and Media Arts seeks candidates with a Ph.D. in Media Studies or a related field, who demonstrate primary research interests in the areas of Media Studies, Critical Race Theory, and/or Gender and Sexuality Studies. Of special interest are candidates with a focus on Black/African American, Indigenous, and/or Latinx Cinema/Media. The successful candidates will also teach in the newly created Foundations program in Media Studies which includes introductory courses in Media History and Theory.
The Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing seeks a candidate with a Ph.D. at the assistant or associate rank with teaching experience in, and research focus on, the intersections of LGBTQIA+ studies and racialization, colonialism, and/or indigeneity in literature. Those with related research interests in Caribbean, Middle Eastern, and/or global Indigenous literatures are especially encouraged to apply.
The Marlboro Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies seeks candidates whose teaching and scholarship are concerned with the intersections of gender/sexuality and critical approaches to racial formations, colonialism, and/or indigeneity. The selected candidates will offer courses in support of the U.S. and/or Global Diversity curriculum and strengthen one or more of the current Marlboro Institute interdisciplinary minors (African American & Africana Studies, Latin American and Latinx Studies, and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies) and/or expand offerings in new areas (Native American and Indigenous Studies, and Asian and Asian Diaspora Studies). A Ph.D. is required in any disciplinary or interdisciplinary field related to the above.
The ideal candidates for this cluster hire will demonstrate potential for outstanding scholarly publication, experience in innovative and effective college-level teaching, and an ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds. A strong commitment to undergraduate education in a residential college environment is essential.
