This position is located in Office of Under Secretary for Museums & Culture. The employee provides leadership in fulfilling the mission of recognizing and fostering understanding and appreciation of the contributions women have made to the foundations of American society and culture through the generation and diffusion of new knowledge based on the collections of the Smithsonian.

The Smithsonian is the world’s largest museum and research complex, with 19 museums, 9 research centers, and affiliates around the world. To create a more equitable and just American society, the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative (AWHI) will create, educate, disseminate, and amplify the historical record of the accomplishments of American women. The Smithsonian wants the role of women in American history to be well-known, accurate, acknowledged, and empowering.
