The Department of History at Santa Clara University invites applications for a full time, three year, renewable term lecturer position (non-tenure track) in the history of the United States to 1877. Candidates should demonstrate ability to teach a variety of survey level as well as upper division American history courses. This includes period courses (such as the first half of the US Survey; Revolution, Confederation, Constitution; The New Nation; and The Union in Crisis) as well as theme courses (such as Historical Geography, California, Gender, Native American, Borderlands, etc.). A seminar on Historical Writing and a two-course Cultures and Ideas sequence will likely be taught each year—sample syllabi available upon request. Successful candidates must have a strong commitment to excellent teaching; and to providing service to the Department, College, University, profession and community appropriate to rank. Teaching responsibilities will include student advising and mentoring. Ph.D. in U.S. History required by starting date: September 1, 2020. The closing date for applications, including letters of recommendation is midnight (Pacific time) on January 31, 2020.
