Call for Proposals 2022 – Something for Everyone!

The Western Association of Women Historians Call for Proposals and Awards submissions for 2022 are now open.

Founded in 1969, the Western Association of Women Historians (WAWH) is the largest regional women’s historical association in the United States. WAWH holds an annual spring conference for the presentation of scholarly work, new research, the discussion of teaching methods, writing, and other issues of importance to women scholars.

  • The 54th Annual Western Association of Women Historians Conference will be held on April 21-23, 2022.
  • This conference will held at the Ayers Hotel in Costa Mesa, California.
  •  The Call for Proposals deadline is 1 February 2022
  • The Awards & Prizes deadline is 14 January 2022

The WAWH invites people to join them for a long-awaited return to their in-person conference with some virtual capacity and interaction built in as well.

The Program Committee invites submissions for the presentation of scholarly work-in-progress, research methods, teaching and curriculum ideas, digital innovation, public history, and issues of importance to women scholars and to the future of the profession.  Proposals for panels, roundtables, posters, or workshops in all fields, regions, and periods of history are welcome. Priority consideration will be given to proposals submitted as complete or mostly complete sessions.

Keynote Speaker: Adria L. Imada, Professor of History, UC Irvine.  Professor Imada’s address will draw from her new book An Archive of Skin, An Archive of Kin: Disability and Life Making during Medical Incarceration (University of California Press, 2022).  She is the prize-winning author of Aloha America: Hula Circuits through the U.S. Empire (Duke University Press, 2012).

The WAWH values inclusivity and welcomes participation from historians from all faculty ranks and career paths, including graduate students, unaffiliated scholars, museum and library professionals, and history practitioners in allied fields.  The Program Committee expects that all panels will be diverse in their composition.  Looking for colleagues to collaborate with on a session? Interested in serving as a discussant or chair at the 2022 meeting?  Please use their online spreadsheet to get connected.

Use the online submission form to forward your proposal to the Program Committee. You can direct any questions you have to ConferenceProgram@wawh.org.
