The Department of History at Western Carolina University is searching for an Assistant Professor of History/History Education and Social Sciences Education. Research fields open. This is a 9-month Tenure-track appointment to begin in the 2023-2024 academic year.
Duties include directing the administration of the social sciences education program, advising social science education students, representing the program on various committees, supervising student interns, and teaching undergraduate courses. All full-time faculty in our department teach a 3/3 course load of lower-level liberal studies courses as well as upper-level/graduate courses. The WCU History Department remains committed to the academic and civic value of diversity in education.
WCU embraces its role as a regionally engaged university and is designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a community engaged university. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to public engagement through their teaching, service, and scholarship.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. from accredited institution in History, Social Sciences Education, or a closely related field required; ABD considered.
Must hold or be eligible for North Carolina licensure in secondary social sciences or methods licensure.
Preferred Qualifications
Research fields open. Preference for subfields that complement current department offerings.
